Who we are

Seneca White Deer inc. (SWD) is a 501©(3) not for profit corporation that was formed in February 1999.  Formed by several conservationists with decades of experience, the SWD Board now has expanded with the addition of  people with marketing, business and educational skills. SWD’s goals are to protect and conserve the natural resources of the Conservation Area (CA) of the Seneca Army Depot as well as to promote the history of the former munitions depot and its role in the cold war.

Why we need your help

Soon, a decision will be made to select a “reuser” of the CA. SWD needs money to help promote what SWD is advocating – the development of a conservation park and the development of a Cold War museum. This promotion will be done through our website and other forms of marketing, and the production of a video that shows the attributes of the CA. This video, produced by SWD member, Lee Brun, is entitled, “The Seneca Army Depot”.

Also, if SWD is selected as the reuser, it will need significant funding for operations and maintenance of its conservation park theme and the establishment of the Cold War museum. In the event that SWD does not become the reuser, then any excess money will be donated to another worthy conservation organization.

How you can help

Feel free to send letters supporting this cause to the persons listed on our site. Sample letter format in RTF for any work processor. Any letters you may write in support of protecting the Conservation Area should be very positive ones, applauding the efforts to date to bring more jobs to Seneca County. Eco-touring, our proposal, can add to that positive economic incentive as well and not leave a big foot print. The conservation area is unique in the world and should be protected so that it can be shared by the world and future generations. Feel free to pass this information on to others.
